While researching post-modern poetry, my partner, Mindy, and I decided to study the works of eco-poets. Eco-poetry is a style of prose or meter poetry with nature and the earth usually being the main topics of the writings. As industrialization and the population have both sky-rocketed in this country since the mid-1900s, many poets write about either the remaining beauty left on this earth or how much beauty has be lost to the rise of urban developments. While the poet I have chosen, William Henry Davies, is not labeled as an eco-poet, the majority of his poems reveal his love for the beauty found in the natural world around us. Davies' writes in a very simple manner using ABAB rhyme schemes, and his poetry is straightforward and easy to understand. While both my partner and I love the outdoors and nature, I hope by studying the works of Davies and other eco-poets that I gain a deeper appreciation for the beauty in nature that goes unnoticed by many each day.
